Millions of young women are using an obscure social media platform called OnlyFans to post explicit nude photos and videos, with its company making millions from subscribers. Established in 2016 and going viral during a pandemic outbreak, OnlyFans peddles lascivious content created by amateur “content creators.” Hailed by some as an expression of female empowerment and income equality – although its users struggle financially; its majority owner earned $1 Million per day in 2022 while most content creators earn over $10,000 monthly.

Subscribers of OnlyFans pay subscription fees in order to access a variety of sexual content ranging from public displays of sexuality, to “car shows,” where models perform seduction in their vehicle. Such videos have amassed millions of views. Critics contend that OnlyFans exploits vulnerable girls and young women for profit; many parents have even been prevented from dropping off their children at school as a result.

Cline, also known by her online name Piper Fawn, was told she could no longer drop off her children at school due to placing a decal promoting OnlyFans page on her SUV. Cline was warned by school administration against furthering any promotion of pornography within its walls and would face expulsion should she ignore their warning against doing so.

“Nudes 4 Sale,” released in 2020, presents an unflattering picture of OnlyFans. It showcases five content creators who describe themselves as loving being entrepreneurs yet feeling pressure to push the limits in their work. Elle Morocco from West Palm Beach, Fla. claims her unemployment payments hardly cover rent, utilities, or food costs so she joined OnlyFans as an attempt at increasing income.
