Carameloceron

Carameloceron

Carameloceron is an irresistibly delicious confection composed of sugar, milk and caramelized almonds that has become a family heirloom over generations. The inspiration for Lancaster Caramel Soft Cremes lies within this rich confection. Each bite melts away seamlessly as soon as it hits your tongue!

Manuel Puig’s El beso de la mujer arana [The Kiss of the Spider Woman] (1976) and Sandra Cisneros’s sprawling multigenerational family drama Caramelo [Caramel] (2002) may appear dissimilar, yet upon closer examination one finds they both explore and critically engage with popular cultural forms like the telenovela.

Literary critics such as Sonia Saldivar-Hull, Susan Griffin, Ana Maria Almeria and Belkys Torres have closely examined Cisneros’ short fiction and poetry for references to telenovela-esque elements; in her novel however, she deepens this critical engagement by critically engaging this genre herself.
